"Brain training with non-action video games enhances aspects of cognition in older adults: a randomized controlled trial" reports follow-on research from AGNES carried out in Spain by Prof Soledad Ballesteros and her colleagues.

The project AGNES is a part of The Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) Joint Programme that is a joint research and development funding programme implemented by 20 European Member States and 3 Associated States. The programme receives a substantial financial support - based on article 169 of the EC treaty - from the European Commission.

AGNES (AAL-2008-1-014) was a 3-year project, started in September 2009. It had a total budget of 3.6 million Euros, of which 2.0 million Euros was provided by the AAL Joint Programme.

The objective of the AAL Joint Programme is to enhance the quality of life of older people and strengthen the industrial base in Europe through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

The new article An ICT-mediated social network in support of successful ageing by Soledad Ballesteros and others, was published in Gerontechnology journal, Volume 13, Issue 1, pages 39-48, 2014.

 
AGNES at AAL and Joint Programme on Neurodegenerative Diseases event

On 27 January 2014 a joint workshop of the AAL JP (Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme) and the JPND (Joint Programming Initiative Neurodegenerative Diseases) was organised at the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam, with the objectives to share knowledge on the JPND and the AAL JP, identify gaps and potential benefits of collaboration and provide recommendations on future joint actions and opportunities. AGNES was represented by Professor Soledad Ballesteros of UNED.
