The project AGNES is a part of The Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) Joint Programme that is a joint research and development funding programme implemented by 20 European Member States and 3 Associated States. The programme receives a substantial financial support - based on article 169 of the EC treaty - from the European Commission.

AGNES (AAL-2008-1-014) was a 3-year project, started in September 2009. It had a total budget of 3.6 million Euros, of which 2.0 million Euros was provided by the AAL Joint Programme.

The objective of the AAL Joint Programme is to enhance the quality of life of older people and strengthen the industrial base in Europe through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

Peace of Mind product

Andreas Kreiner of Modern Families presented Peace of Mind at a Workshop in Vienna on 4th November, held at the Austrian Research Promotion Agency, FFG. Peace of Mind is a result of AGNES that offers a radical new way to offer an AAL product that scales and can reach a mass market today. Peace of Mind makes possible a very simple service for elderly users and their carers, using existing technology (Android tablet, cloud based monitoring of the tablet) at very low cost. It is so easy that any family member could decide to finance it and install it himself in a few minutes. It offers also them the potential to add a whole series of additional services on top.
